La Paz, May 19 (RHC) Bolivia’s Chamber of Deputies, or Lower Chamber of Parliament, debates a Mining Bill on Monday, which was already passed by the senators after modifying some of its articles.
The deputies are considering some 70 modifications to the draft law, which aims at regulating activities in the mining and metal sectors to have them operate in a planned and sustainable manner, PL news agency reported from La Paz.
One of the articles on the spotlight of the Chamber states that only the government is entitled to sign contracts with private or trans-national companies, an aspect that was disregarded by many cooperatives, causing discrepancies between the government and the Federation of Mining Cooperatives.
Once the bill is passed by the Chamber of Deputies It will be ready for official announcement by the President of the country.
