Bogotá, May 23 (PL-RHC) -- Several road closures, prohibition on alcohol, ban on carrying weapons and suspension of bikeways service are some measures being taken for the presidential election on Sunday, which will be guarded by about 10,000 soldiers.

According to the District Government, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited from Saturday at 6 p.m. local time until Monday at 6 a.m., to ensure the normal development of Election Day.  There will be also a ban on carrying weapons in the District and transportation of gas containers and debris from Friday until Wednesday.

During the elections in Colombia for the next president and vice president, the use of cell phones, cameras or videos inside polling stations will be banned.

The city government has deployed 200 police officers and 2,000 troops of the Army to monitor main streets and places such as the Bolivar Square and Corferias. 

More than 32 million Colombians are eligible to vote, five million of them in Bogotá.

The race for the presidency involves current President Juan Manuel Santos, of the Coalition of National Unity; Clara Lopez, of the Democratic Union-Patriotic Pole; Marta Lucia Ramirez, of the Conservative Party; Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, of the Democratic Center; and Enrique Peñalosa, of the Green Alliance.
