Gaza City, January 21 (RHC)-- Palestinian officials in the Gaza Strip have expressed their deep concerns over miserable conditions of the Palestinian prisoners at Israeli jails amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Amid the recent growing of coronavirus infections in Israeli jails and the medical negligence about Palestinian prisoners' conditions, the Palestinian Legislative Council along with the Ministry of Palestinian prisoners held a press conference to express concerns of the serious condition of the prisoners at Israeli jails.  Palestinians demanded an urgent action from the international community to save their lives.

According to reports, more than 250 prisoners are diagnosed with the coronavirus and the number is expected to rise due to the intentional medical neglect at Israeli jails as Israel has stalled delivery of the vaccine to the Palestinian prisoners.  Palestinians also demanded an international supervision to vaccinate Palestinian prisoners and make sure they are delivering the required healthcare.

Palestinian sources say over 5,000 Palestinians are currently detained in Israeli jails, mostly with no charge.  Palestinian resistance has warned that they won't remain silent and hold Israel responsible for the consequences of neglecting the heath condition of Palestinian prisoners.

Palestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes in an attempt to express their outrage at the detention.  Despite deteriorating conditions of Palestinians inmates, Israel continues to defy Palestinians and human rights groups' calls to provide them with the required care.
