More than 2,300 observers will participate in Ecuador's elections

Quito, January 31 (RHC)-- The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador have announced that 2,359 national and international observers have been accredited so far for the general elections of next February 7, who have applied for the accreditation process that ends this January 30.

According to a report of the electoral body, 2,134 observers are national and 225 international.  Among other interesting data, it was reported that 1,335 national accredited observers are by invitation, while the other 789 are natural persons.  To date, 225 international observers have been accredited: 18 as independent mission, 114 as conducted mission and 93 invited.

Each observer must monitor the installation of the Voting Boards (JRV) and the development of the voting, as well as dialogue with the candidates and delegates of the political subjects in the electoral precincts.  Other important functions will be to verify the scrutinies and challenges, as well as to monitor the operation of the counting centers.

Ecuador's Electoral Observation Regulations provide for two types of international observation: independent and conducted. The former is carried out by individuals, legal entities or organizations outside the State or the structure of the Electoral Function.  On the other hand, conducted observation is carried out by representatives of international electoral organizations in charge of electoral processes in different countries.
