Brasilia, February 10 (RHC)-- Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) has authorized -- by a vote of four in favor and one against -- that the lawyers of former president Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva use as evidence the leaked dialogues between former judge Sergio Moro and prosecutors of the Lava Jato.

These conversations support the allegations of bias in the process against the former president and are considered a key step to restore the political rights of Lula, reported teleSUR's correspondent in Brazil, Nacho Lemus.

Through the now defunct anti-corruption operation Lava Jato, former judge Moro sentenced Lula in two different cases to prison sentences totaling almost 25 years in prison, which removed him from the presidential race.

"The conversation shows that former judge Moro and the members of the operation acted illegally to convict Lula da Silva," Vieira asserted.  He recalled that Moro, who months after convicting Lula was appointed minister by President Jair Bolsonaro, was the head of the Justice portfolio when the Federal Police conducted in 2019 an operation against hackers who invaded his phone and leaked his compromising messages with members of the Lava Jato.

The full content of the messages obtained by the Federal Police in the operation against the hackers was released last February 1st for access by Lula's defense and the decision was reaffirmed this Tuesday by the second chamber of the STF.

Lula da Silva's defense seeks the annulment of the process that convicted the former president, in order to restore his political rights.
