Caracas, March 11 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has requested that the United Nations intervene in Brazil to control the situation generated by COVID-19 in the South American giant, which he described as a "tragedy," after a new record was registered with 2,286 deaths.

"Four days ago, we ratified to the UN Secretary General what we alerted him nine months before, that the UN must intervene against the Brazilian government to assume and control the tragedy and thus protect all of South America," wrote the Venezuelan foreign minister through the social network Twitter.

The Venezuelan official accompanied the message with a letter dated March 6th and addressed to Guterres in which he requests "urgent efforts and good offices" to the Brazilian authorities, and especially to President Jair Bolsonaro, so that he recognizes the seriousness of the health emergency and coordinates actions against COVID-19 with neighboring countries.

Venezuela pointed out in the letter, that the "alarming epidemiological dynamics" in Brazil "consequence of the repeated criminal negligence" of Bolsonaro, whom it also accused of being the "main obstacle" to saving lives in the "worst moment of the pandemic."

"President Jair Bolsonaro and his government have become the worst enemy of national, regional and international efforts, including those at the bilateral and multilateral level, to mitigate the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Latin American and Caribbean region" added the Venezuelan government.
