La Paz, March 16 (RHC)-- The Bolivian Prosecutor's Office announced the arrest of former Army General Pastor Mendieta Ferrufino for his participation in the coup against former President Evo Morales between the months of October and November 2019.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the investigations yielded sufficient evidence against Mendieta in the events of 2019 and he will have to answer for the crimes of terrorism, sedition and conspiracy.  The apprehended military general will be taken to a hearing for precautionary measures.

Mendieta participated in the press conference where the Military High Command demanded that Evo Morales resign from the presidency, clearly violating the Constitution of the Plurinational State of Bolivia because it prevents the military from deliberating or participating in political acts.

Last Thursday, the Prosecutor's Office also ordered the arrest of the former commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Williams Kaliman, for the case of the 2019 coup d'état against Evo Morales and which generated institutional destabilization in the country.

In addition to the arrests of the military, the Bolivian Justice is looking for the Police General, Yuri Calderón Mariscal, who participated in the rupture of the Constitutional thread in the South American nation.

The Bolivian Justice continues investigating and capturing those involved in the coup d'état of 2019.  Together with the ex-military members, the former de facto president, Jeanine Áñez, and two former ministers of her administration are under preventive arrest.
