Quito, April 8 (RHC)-- Ecuadorean President Lenin Moreno reported on his Twitter account the decision to replace the country's Minister of Health, Dr. Mauro Antonio Falconí, after irregularities in the vaccination campaign in Quito.

"Our seniors deserve the utmost respect.  What happened today has no justification," said the president, adding that the new head of the sector will be Dr. Camilo Salinas.

Jorge Wated Reshuan, Secretary General of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, also confirmed the government's decision, and said "What happened today in the city of Quito is unacceptable! Hard solutions to hard moments."

Telesur's correspondent in Ecuador, Denisse Herrera, confirmed on Wednesday the situation of disorder in the country's capital, where there were long lines of elderly people waiting for hours to be vaccinated.
Authorities detailed that in addition to the delay in the delivery of vaccines, a mistake caused the wrong vaccines to arrive at the school.

Mauro Falconí thus becomes the fifth official who headed this state portfolio and is dismissed during the government of Lenín Moreno.  He leaves the position after having served as health minister for only 19 days.
