Atlanta, April 10 (RHC)-- The United States logged another 75,000 coronavirus infections in a 24-hour period, with hospitalizations at their highest levels in over a month — even as the number of people vaccinated with at least one dose hit 110 million, or a third of the U.S. population.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the majority of U.S. infections are now caused by the B.1.1.7 variant — first identified in the U.K. — which has been found to be more deadly than earlier variants and more transmissible.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said the latest surge is being driven by younger people.   Dr. Walensky told reporters: “Across the country, we are hearing reports of clusters of cases associated with daycare centers and youth sports.  Hospitals are seeing more and more younger adults, those in their thirties and forties, admitted with severe disease.”
