Lima, April 17 (RHC)-- The winner of last Sunday's elections in Peru, the candidate of Peru Libre (PL), Pedro Castillo, pulled slightly more than 5 percentage points ahead of the candidate of Popular Force, Keiko Fujimori, according to the official final result.

With these results, Castillo and Fujimori were officially confirmed as rivals for the June 6th ballot that will define who will lead the country after several years of political instability and in the midst of the current economic and epidemiological crisis.

The candidates of Peru Libre and Fuerza Popular will go to the second round of the elections, according to the report of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) with 100% processed reports for president and vice-presidents.

Voting has been very atomized, with up to nine candidates above 5 percent of support, so negotiations to achieve support for the second round scheduled for June 6 become more important.

According to the count, Pedro Castillo obtained 19,098 % of the votes, while Keiko Fujimori reached 13.3%.  In third place was Rafael López Aliaga (Renovación Popular) with 11.6% of the votes, while Hernando de Soto (Avanza País) occupied the fourth position with 11,593 % of the votes.
