Asunción, June 11 (PL-RHC) -- More than 50,000 people were forced to leave their homes in Paraguay's capital Asunción, faced with increased floods due to the overflow of the river Paraguay.

The National Emergency Secretariat (SEN) explained that the river continued overflowing and has reached almost six meters, a figure that experts asserted would continue increasing in coming days.

The victims are mostly residents in vulnerable areas by the river and their number increased, according to SEN, due to the continuous arrival of poor families and farmers from other departments, with the same needs.

The unstoppable extension of the floods caused a serious problem in this capital to relocate and assist the victims, because all shelters are overcrowded, as well as nearby military units and some of the families had to stay in squares and public places.
