Lima, June 27 (RHC)-- Right-wing Keiko Fujimori is turning to the Organization of American States (OAS) to conduct an audit of the presidential election results from June 6th.  During a rally held on Saturday in the Plaza Bolognesi in Lima, the representative of Fuerza Popular claimed that her intention in requesting an audit is not that her party be "favored" -- but that what she called the "irregularities and cheating" that took place at the polling stations during the elections three weeks ago be analyzed.

Likewise, Fujimori announced that she would deliver this request on Monday to the interim president of the country, Francisco Sagasti, so that the OAS could carry out the official investigation.

"We hope that candidate Castillo does the same [...] I hope he has the opportunity to talk with the president, and if not, I will leave him the letter requesting an international audit," said Fujimori.

On Saturday, the Superior Court of Justice of Lima considered it "improper" to annul the ballot because there was no evidence of fraud, pointing out that the National Electoral Jury (JNE) acted in its resolutions according to the law and "without showing sympathy" for either of the two candidates.

The Peruvian presidential elections were held on June 6 and, after the scrutiny of 100% of the votes -- as announced by the electoral body on June 15 -- Pedro Castillo obtained 50.125% of the votes, while Keiko Fujimori obtained 49.875%, a difference of 44,058 ballots.

Now, three weeks after the balloting, Peruvian electoral authorities have not yet been able to proclaim Castillo as president-elect due to Fujimori's refusal to accept her defeat in the elections.
