Colombia closes June as the deadliest month of the pandemic

Bogota, July 2 (RHC)-- Colombia closed the month of June with more than 17,000 deaths linked to the coronavirus, making it the deadliest month since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the balance sheets of the Ministry of Health during the month of June, the virulence of COVID-19 led the country to surpass all its records of deaths, contagions and hospital overcrowding.   The National Institute of Health reports that throughout the month of June, 17,716 of the 106,544 deaths counted in 16 months of pandemic were reported.

In terms of infections, the country continues to add tens of thousands of new cases daily, showing that Colombia is at a new peak of daily infections.

On Sunday, June 27, a new record number of infections was recorded with 33,594 and according to the World Health Organization (WHO) Colombia is one of the five countries in the world that recorded the most new cases last week.
