The President of Venezuela valued the progress of negotiations between the Government and the united platform of the opposition.

Caracas, August 16 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros expressed this Monday that the peace negotiation between the Government and the unitary platform of the opposition is off to a successful start, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.  The memorandum includes a commitment by representatives of the opposition to renounce violence.

During an international press conference, the Venezuelan president highlighted that the National Assembly will debate the memorandum of understanding in its plenary and will approve it, in order to confer it legal force.

He referred that the Government made three proposals, the first of which was the recognition of the legitimate authorities of Venezuela, presided by Nicolás Maduro and granted plenipotentiary powers to Jorge Rodríguez for the negotiations.

He added that the Executive also demanded the cessation of violence. In this sense, he added that the signatories of the memorandum for the opposition are committed to cease violence, although he warned that worrisome news are coming from Colombia, whose President Iván Duque intends to boycott the agreement.

Maduro Moros explained that the lifting of the cruel coercive measures imposed on Venezuela was also demanded.  He said that in this matter the slogan is "Sanctions or nothing".

The Bolivarian leader added that a fourth demand was made, that all the oppositions sit down, but the signatories did not sign it.  He also stated that the Bolivarian Government will do its best so that this time the opposition does not break the dialogue and agreements can be reached.
