Opposition candidate Xiomara Castro leads in voting intentions in Honduras

Xiomara Castro announced that if she wins the presidential elections in November, she will call for a new Constituent Assembly to reform the Constitution.

Tegucigalpa, October 28 (RHC)-- The presidential candidate of the opposition party Libertad y Refundación (LIBRE) of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, leads the intention of the vote for the elections to be held on November 28, according to a survey by the Center for Studies for Democracy (Cespad).

The poll carried out by Cespad pointed out that Xiomara Castro, who is running with Salvador Nasralla, leader of the Salvador Party of Honduras (PSH), is 17 percentage points ahead of the official candidate Nasry Asfura.

If the elections were held today, Castro would be the virtual winner of the elections with 38 percent of the electoral preference, against 21 percent for Asfura, of the National Party, according to Cespad.

The academic organization consulted 1,726 Honduran citizens nationwide by telephone between October 12 and 20, and the poll has a margin of error of 2.0 percent.   

The survey indicated that 78 percent of those questioned disapproved of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández's management in terms of employment generation, while 73 percent criticized the anti-corruption policy.

Cespad added that 63 percent of the surveyed population said they were not satisfied with the administration of the country under the Hernandez administration.  It noted that more than 60 percent of voters plan to attend the polls on November 28, despite the uncertainty of the process and that it is considered that the elections could be fraudulent.
