La Paz, January 2 (RHC)-- Bolivian Civil Defense authorities carried out an operation Saturday to rescue 10 people who were trapped by floods in the eastern department of Santa Cruz.  Those affected, including several minors, by the overflowing of rivers in the community of Nuevo Amanecer, in Santa Cruz, due to heavy rains, had already been cut off for three days, sources reported.

The person in charge of Civil Defense in Santa Cruz, Williams Suárez, informed that the rescued people were taken to the city of Montero, where they will be checked to know their health condition.  "Today (Saturday) 10 people were rescued in the Nuevo Amanecer community (...) the people were flooded, they could not move anywhere and were evacuated to Montero so that they could be evaluated", declared Suárez.

Bolivian President Luis Arce confirmed the news on his social networks by stating: "We continue working for the safety of the people.  We rescued in the town Nuevo Amanecer, Santa Cruz, 10 people including elderly, children and a baby, who were trapped by floods."

"All of them were taken to Montero and are in good health. We take care of life above all," said the president of the South American country.
