Santiago de Chile, September 2 (RHC)-- Electoral silence begins this Friday in Chile after the closing of campaigns by supporters and opponents of the new constitutional proposal, which will be submitted to a referendum next Sunday.

More than 15 million Chileans are called to vote for the approval or rejection of the Magna Carta draft that seeks to replace the one in force since the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

On Thursday, the campaign in favor of the constitutional text gathered hundreds of thousands of people in the emblematic Alameda avenue in a rally with the participation of outstanding artists such as Ana Tijoux, Los Vásquez, Francisca Valenzuela, and Illapu, among others.

Any demonstrations, caravans, or electoral propaganda are banned as of this Friday.

The change of the fundamental law was one of the demands of the 2019 social outburst when the citizens called for structural transformations in the country.

After a year of work, the Constitutional Convention prepared a project that, in its final draft, contains 11 chapters referring to fundamental rights, nature, and environment, democratic participation, good governance, executive and legislative power, the justice system, among others.
