Lebannon reports Israeli violations of its sea sovereignty

Havana, March 29 (RHC) Lebanon reported today new violations by Israel of its sovereignty by sea, in breach of all international resolutions, especially 1701 of the United Nations Security Council.

At different times, four Israeli military vessels entered Lebanese territorial waters off Ras al-Naqoura, on the southern border, according to the Army Orientation Directorate. The Tel Aviv boats broke into the aforementioned sea point at a distance between 351 and 500 meters, the note specified.

The issue of infringements is addressed in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), established in Beirut 45 years ago to confirm the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory; as well as to restore international peace and security.

In the middle of the month, UNIFIL alerted Lebanon and Israel to exercise restraint and use coordination mechanisms to avoid misunderstandings and reduce tensions.

During the first months of 2023, the Lebanese Army prevented enemy attempts to cross the Blue Line in the context of Israel's defensive fortification work on the border and reported air and sea infractions.

In January, Lebanon demanded that UNIFIL exert maximum pressure on Tel Aviv to stop its hostile practices and the repeated violations by sea, air and land of its territory.

At the same time, it reaffirmed the commitment to UN resolutions, including Security Council 1701 adopted on August 11, 2006, to emphasize the country's territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence within its internationally recognized borders.

The two countries have been in a situation of war since the establishment of the State of Israel and throughout these years many crimes and aggressions remain in the memory of the Lebanese people in the face of Tel Aviv's ambitions to seize the water from the Litani River and oil wealth and gas.
