US jury votes to indict former President Trump
Havana, March 31 (RHC) A grand jury in New York, United States, voted this Thursday in favor of formally indicting former President Donald Trump for his role in paying adult film actress Stormy Daniels, according to a TeleSur report.
The accusation comes in response to a statement indicating that the former president (2017-2021) would have made a series of payments to silence the denunciation of an extramarital sexual encounter during his presidential campaign in 2016.
The 76-year-old tycoon and Republican thus becomes the first former US president to face criminal charges, which would directly influence his race for the White House in 2024, in which he will run to try to regain office.
The former head of the White House, when reacting to the jury's decision, described the entire process as a political persecution. “Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to get Trump, but now they have done the unthinkable by charging a completely innocent person in an act of flagrant election interference,” he said.
The Manhattan Prosecutor's Office is scheduled to summon Trump in the coming days to inform him of the charges for which he will be prosecuted. (Source: TeleSur)
