Brazilian president concludes fruitful visit to China
Havana, April 15 (RHC) - Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva concluded a visit to China that resulted in the signing of various agreements and the achievement of consensus to revitalize bilateral ties.
Since Thursday, the South American dignitary held meetings with authorities, businessmen and trade unionists from the Asian giant, in which he ratified his government’s will to boost the comprehensive strategic association with the aim of ensuring greater benefits for both parties.
The meeting with his counterpart, Xi Jinping, ended with a joint declaration that includes the guidelines to consolidate work in the economic-commercial, political, social, and environmental spheres.
Both presidents called for expanding trade flows, investment, and win-win cooperation in both directions in areas such as infrastructure, energy transition, logistics, mining, agriculture, communications, and high technology, among others.
They decided to join forces in research and initiatives that help address climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as move towards sustainable development and a low-carbon economy. To that end, they will establish a specific group within the Sino-Brazilian High-Level Bilateral Consultation Commission.
Likewise, they agreed to strengthen ties in the areas of tourism, culture and education due to their importance in promoting mutual knowledge.
Xi Jinping and Lula advocated making better use of the weight of their countries and having more coordination in international platforms such as the United Nations Organization, the G20 and the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) based on defend multilateralism, justice and global equality.
Among other issues, they highlighted the role of the China-Celac (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) forum and expressed support for the expansion of the BRICS membership, given the growing interest of different nations to integrate it.
They also discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, agreed on the need to prioritize dialogue and negotiation to end it, and considered it vital that more countries contribute constructively to find a solution. (Source: Prensa Latina)
