Discussions on the reopening of the embassies of Iran and Saudi Arabia took place during the visit to Beijing of the foreign ministers of both countries
Havana, April 17 (RHC) - The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ratified this Monday there is an agreement between his country and Saudi Arabia to reopen their embassies within two months, before May 19.
The director general of the Persian Gulf of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Alireza Enayati, said that the discussion of the matter took place a month ago when the foreign ministers of the two countries met in Beijing. From that date the official declaration of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia began, and after that there was an exchange of technical delegations.
Another delegation from Saudi Arabia is also traveling to Tehran to reopen the embassy. According to Enayati, Tehran received the Riyadh government delegation, which visited its diplomatic representation last Friday, and they left for Mashhad where they went to its general consulate in that city.
On the other hand, Enayati stated that on the Iranian side, the same has been done. Last Wednesday, two delegations from the Islamic Republic of Iran left for the Saudi capital.
In this sense, the head of the Iranian delegation, Hossein Zarnegar Abarghoei, met with the Vice Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia for ceremonial affairs, a meeting that Enayati described as very good and constructive.
Regarding the timing of the reopening of the embassies of Iran and Saudi Arabia and their priority and delay in timelines, Enayati said that "this is a completely technical issue and not much has been decided on it at the moment."
On the other hand, he stressed that "the cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia is a realization of the concept called a single Persian Gulf, and that the 8 Persian Gulf countries can play an effective and constructive role in the Persian Gulf as one, identical and together with a single identity”.
Meanwhile, Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi extended an invitation to the Saudi king to pay an official visit to the Persian country after the restart of bilateral relations. (Source: Telesur)
