Mexico City, June 9 (RHC)-- The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), showed his support for his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro after a series of scandals within his government.

"I support him.  He is a great president Gustavo Petro, a great president of Colombia, brother of Mexico," said AMLO in his morning news conference, while saying that Petro is a blessing for the Colombian nation.

The Mexican leader recalled that Colombia suffered many years of bad governments, therefore, Petro deserves all the support he can get.  

This past week, Petro had to take to the streets to seek popular support to give strength to labor, pension and health reforms promoted by his executive.  These proposals are stalled in Congress, as some opposition sectors do not agree with the measures.

The Executive led by Petro does not have a majority in the Assembly, so popular support is vital for the approval of the proposed reforms by the deadline of June 20th.
