Bogotá, September 8 (Xinhua-RHC) -- The rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) over the weekend demanded in a statement that the government recognize the rights of its fighters who have died in the country's civil war.

The FARC's requirement was a response to the issue of the comprehensive rights for victims in Colombia's internal armed conflict. The FARC requests the rights of its deceased rebels be recognized the same as those from other parties involved in the war.

"Other issues to be addressed are the treatment of combatants that directly face acts of victimization...and also the situation of political prisoners and victims of the conflict," said the statement.

It also asked for a special recognition to be given to victims from political, social groups and unions, as well as peasants, indigenous communities and African descendants.

The FARC said that as proof of their willingness for peace with social justice, it will assume responsibilities but expect the same from the nation's political parties, business groups, large landowners, agricultural sector and also transnational corporations.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos' government began peace talks with the FARC, the country's largest rebel group, in December 2012 in Cuba.
