Translation from Spanish > "Ahhh... he's so cute." "What's his name?" "The United Nations." "Can I pet him?" "Sure. He doesn't do anything."
Gabriel Elizondo / Reporting from UN Headquarters, New York City, United States
Since October 7, meeting after meeting, and yet nothing the UN Security Council has done or said has been able to stop Israel’s genocidal war of aggression on Gaza.
A few examples:
Back on October 30, an emergency meeting and a call to halt the fighting when the death toll was 8,000. It has since soared to five times that.
On May 24, the council met to pass a resolution condemning the killing of UN staff and aid workers. Since then, another 15 UN personnel have been killed and more humanitarian workers as well.
And on May 29, the council met after Israel struck a camp in Rafah sparking fires and killing dozens. Since then, [there have been] more strikes by Israel and more deaths.
Journalists report about it and diplomats listen to it. That is the power of the UN Security Council.
The hope is that eventually, there will be the political will to end Israel’s war on Gaza.
[This is] something [that], so far, the council has failed to do.
