Caracas, September 9 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has denied statements made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, about the departure of Edmundo Gonzalez from Venezuelan territory to Madrid.

Earlier, Albares falsely stated that there were no negotiations between Venezuela and Spain to grant the departure of Edmundo González.

In a message posted on her Telegram channel, Rodríguez stated:  "A lier is not a good advisor.  Extensive conversations and contacts took place to organize the departure of opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia from the country with full guarantees offered by a safe-conduct, the product of the agreement between both governments."

The Venezuelan vice president pointed out that "the landing [in Caracas] of a Spanish Air Force aircraft with authorization from the aeronautical authorities of Venezuela" is proof in and of itself that such negotiations took place.

Edmundo González left for Spain on Saturday night, according to Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who announced that he had requested political asylum from the Spanish Government, which was granted after conversations between Madrid and the Government of Venezuela, in which the granting of a safe-conduct was agreed.

On Sunday, the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, confirmed the departure from Venezuelan territory of Edmundo González and stated that the Public Ministry respects the decision taken by the Bolivarian Government.
