Lebanon denounces over 816 Israeli assaults during ceasefire

Havana, Dec 24 (RHC) The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced more than 816 Israeli ground and air strikes on the country since the ceasefire agreement went into effect on November 27.

In its statement to the UN Security Council, the Ministry strongly condemned the shelling of Lebanese border villages, the planting of booby traps, the destruction of residential areas, and the obstruction of roads.

According to Lebanese diplomats, the ongoing Israeli aggression undermines attempts to de-escalate tensions and prevent a military escalation.

The Foreign Ministry deemed these actions to be a significant danger to international initiatives aimed at fostering security and tranquility in the area. It also stressed that these assaults hinder the implementation of Resolution 1701 and impede the deployment of the Lebanese military in the southern region.

By reaffirming its commitment to international resolutions and the implementation of ceasefire agreements, Lebanon has demonstrated its response to the calls for action and has shown the utmost restraint and cooperation to prevent the escalation of hostilities.

In its complaint, the Ministry urged the Security Council, particularly the United States and France, the co-sponsors of the agreement, to adopt a resolute and unequivocal stance against Israel's violations and to force it to comply with its obligations.

Lebanon called for increased assistance to the United Nations Interim Force and the national army, to ensure the preservation of its sovereignty and to create a secure environment. (Source: Prensa Latina)
