Choco, Nov. 29 (RHC)-- The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) announced Friday that continued military operations by the Colombian army in the municipality of Choco pose a serious obstacle to a planned humanitarian operation to release General Ruben Darío Alzate and his two companions.
A communique issued by the guerrilla group states that despite commitments and public announces made by the Colombian government to that end, the local population continues reporting heavy military operations by the army, bombings and the arbitrary detention of several community leaders.
FARC-EP stressed that if the government suspends all military operations in the area as promised, Alzate and his two companions will be released Sunday as was previously agreed upon by the sides.
President Juan Manuel Santos wrote a few days ago on his tweeter account that he had instructed the army to call off all military operations in Choco to facilitate the humanitarian release operation.
