Mexico City, February 5 (RHC-Xinhua) -- Latin American nations have joined the international outcry against the killing of a Jordanian pilot at the hands of the Islamic State (IS) terrorists.

The governments of Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Chile have all issued statements condemning the killing of Muath al-Kaseasbeh, revealed in a video Tuesday, showing the Jordanian pilot was being burnt alive. He was captured by the IS in December after his plane crashed in Syria.

"The Brazilian government expresses its condolences and solidarity with the family of the pilot, and with the people and government of Jordan," Brazil's Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement issued late Tuesday.

"The international community cannot remain indifferent to such barbaric acts," the ministry added.

Argentina on Wednesday noted it was the latest in a string of murders, saying it "condemns the new killings of Jordanian, Japanese, Syrian and Iraqi citizens by the IS terrorists."

"Only international cooperation can effectively tackle the scourge of terrorism, within the framework of unfettered respect for human rights and international law," Argentina's ministry said.

Mexico condemned the brutal killing of the pilot, echoing United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's call to redouble efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.

Chile has called for trying those criminals while Colombia also joined the UN chief's call to "redouble efforts to end the scourge of terrorism."

Three days before the release of the video showing the killing of the Jordanian pilot, 47-year-old Japanese journalist Kenji Goto was allegedly decapitated by the IS after a string of other similar horrific killings.
