London, April 13 (teleSUR-RHC) British troops have completed a test-raid on the Malvinas Islands, the UK newspaper The Express reported on Sunday.

The exercise was comprised of five four-man teams securing two islands without being spotted, leaving calling cards as proof of their success. According to military sources, the practice attack was completed four months ago.

The newspaper claimed that the military drill was in response to speculation that Argentine commandos may try to reclaim the islands. However Argentine President Cristina Fernandez warned earlier this month that the U.K. was militarizing the archipelago in response to arms-dealing lobbies, using an alleged Argentine invasion of the Malvinas as a pretext to flex its military muscle. “Find yourselves another excuse, because we are not a military threat to anyone,” she said.

The Argentine constitution rules out military action to reclaim the Malvinas instead calling for a solution based on the “principles of international law.” The Argentine government has repeatedly called for dialogue, something dismissed by the U.K. Government.

Last week, the Argentine Foreign Ministry summoned the country’s British ambassador to “demand explanations amid the silence” from the British government over revelations of massive digital spying against Argentina for the Malvinas issue. London, in return, has asked to question Argentine ambassador Alicia Castro over the same matter.

The latest feud between the two nations comes in relation to recent exposure by U.S. National Security Agency whistleblower, Edward Snowden, of British surveillance on Argentine electronic communication.
