Havana, August 18 (RHC)-- Representatives of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – Peoples Army, FARC-EP, and high ranking members of the Colombian Catholic Church have met in Havana, where peace talks are taking place.

At the meeting, which was attended by the president of the Colombian Episcopal Conference, Monseigneur Luis Augusto Castro, participants discussed the petition by FARC rebels to meet with the Pope during his visit to Havana in September.

According to Carlos Antonio Lozada, spokesman for the FARC, the petition to name a special envoy from the Vatican for the peace talks -- held between the insurgent forces and the Colombian government of Juan Manuel Santos -- was also discussed.

The Pope will visit Cuba from the 19th to the 22nd of September and the decision on whether he'll meet with Colombian rebel representatives will be communicated by the Vatican and Cuban authorities.
