Bogotá, August 27 (teleSUR-RHC)-- As the number of femicides continue increasing in Colombia, the National Network of Women launched a free application for mobile phones which warns women about types of violent crimes they can be victims of, and about ways they can report them, El Espectador newspaper published on Tuesday.

The initiative was conceived out of the lack of information that currently affects women in Colombia and has to do with how to report gender violence, which is one of the reasons why there is a high rate of impunity in the country, the organization's spokeswoman Beatriz Quintero explained.

After three months of technical conception and one month of trial, the application is finally available for Android. Quintero admitted that not all Colombian women own a smartphone, but said the Android system was generalized enough to allow for some kind of protection.

Application users will not have to give personal details when downloading it, so their identity can remain anonymous and they can be protected if they report some kind of violence.
