United Nations, September 3 (RHC)-- The United Nations says a total of 1,325 Iraqis lost their lives and 1,811 others sustained injuries in the month of August in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict.

In a report published by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), the UN said 585 civilians and 740 security personnel, including voluntary forces fighting alongside the Iraqi army, were among those killed in Iraq in August, adding that the number of civilians wounded stood at 1,103.

Baghdad was the worst hit province with 1,069 civilian casualties, consisting of 318 people killed and 751 others injured. The number of civilian casualties in the Western Anbar Province was also put at 187, based on information obtained by UNAMI from the Anbar Health Directorate.

The UNAMI figures showed that a total of 1,332 Iraqis were killed and 2,108 others injured in terrorist attacks and violence in July.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh terrorists launched their terror campaign in June 2014, and took control of parts of the Iraqi territory.
