Panama City, December 7 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Investigations into the United States invasion of Panama in 1989 are biased since they are being conducted by Washington itself, according to the Panamanian non-government organization Association of Families and Friends of the Fallen on December 20, 1989. President of the NGO, Trinidad Ayola, told Prensa Latina in an interview Sunday that the investigative body assigned to the task, Justice and Peace, “could not be neutral.” The body was created to clarify what happened during and after the U.S. invasion of Panama 26 years ago. The United States invaded Panama on December 20, 1989 in a series of bloody attacks. According to CounterPunch, “U.S. soldiers killed more people than were killed on 9/11. They systematically burned apartment buildings and shot people indiscriminately in the streets.” Among other demands the NGO has for the investigative body is moral and economic reparations to the families and victims, and the declaration of December 20th as a National Day of Mourning, reported Prensa Latina. The comments come as the NGO prepares to launch a series of public events to commemorate the 25 years since the attack, including memorials and special discussions.
