Bogotá, December 21 (PL-RHC)-- Colombia's Interior Minister Juan Fernando Cristo said peace agreements reached in Havana may be voted in Colombia by plebiscite early in the first half of next year.

The statements by the senior government official were broadcast by RCN radio station during news programs on Sunday. Cristo said that last week was extremely important for peace in Colombia. He noted that the Congress approved the plebiscite and the first round and the Legislative Act for Peace.

He also pointed out that the announcement was made in Havana of the resolution of the most complex point in the dialogue, the most difficult in the negotiations, which was the rights of victims. He emphasized that the agreement fully guarantees the right of victims to truth, justice, reparation and non-repetition guarantees.

The Interior Minister said that to complete the peace process and reach a final agreement to end the war, the government will continue its work with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).

We will achieve peace in 2016 and Colombians will have the opportunity to vote for that peace, Cristo said.

The Colombian government and the FARC-EP have been holding talks in Cuba for three years now, seeking to end a prolonged internal armed conflict that has lasted over half a century and has caused around 300,000 deaths.
