Lima, May 4 (RHC)-- The Peruvian “El Chapo,” who was arrested in Colombia and immediately deported back to Peru, is wanted in connection with 101 homicides, various news outlets have reported.  Gerson Galvez, also known as the “Caracol” or “Snail,” is Peru's most-wanted criminal and the Andean country's authorities posted a $150,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

According to news reports, this bounty is the highest ever offered by Peru, whose media dubbed him El Chapo or Shorty after the world's most powerful drug trafficker, Mexican Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who is currently in a maximum security jail in Mexico awaiting extradition to the United States.

Galvez was arrested over the weekend at a Medellin upscale shopping mall and expelled within 24 hours because he was illegally residing in Colombia, authorities said.  El Chapo Galvez was first detected in Ecuador in March and his movements were tracked since in Panama and Colombia.

The Caracol is accused of sending huge cocaine shipments from Callao, Peru, to others countries.  Peru is currently considered the number one producer of cocaine in the world.

Authorities have not explained what Galvez was doing in Medellin, although it is believed that he was attempting to meet with members of the Office of Envigado, a crime syndicate of Colombia.  However, Colombian police officials said Galvez owns a luxury apartment in Medellin's upscale neighborhood El Poblado.
