Havana, September 26 (RHC-ACN) The Mayor of Houston, Texas, Sylvester Turner, arrived Sunday in Cuba heading a 30-member trade mission to explore opportunities to expand bilateral links following the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana.
Turner’s agenda includes talks with Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment minister Rodrigo Malmierca; Energy and Mines Minister Alfredo Lopez; Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero, and with the Minister of Health Roberto Morales.
Last year, Texas governor Greg Abbott visited Havana in an attempt to open avenues for further exchanges between that US state and Cuba.
The delegation headed by the Houston mayor includes representatives of the Texas Medical Center, the Houston Harbor authority, Houston Airport System, the Houston Community College, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Halliburton Oil Corporation, and United Airlines, which is scheduled to begin direct Houston--Havana commercial flights in November.
