Havana, January 20 (RHC)-- Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) member countries are due to arrive in Havana beginning next Monday, January 27th, to participate in the 2nd Summit of the regional bloc.
Representatives of the 33 CELAC member countries and a number of special guests, mainly executives from regional and international organizations linked to the CELAC, will participate in the summit, organizers said.
The summit, to be held in Havana on January 28th and 29th, will focus on seeking strategies to address issues affecting the region, such as hunger, poverty and inequality.
Prior to the summit, several other meetings of regional experts and foreign ministers will be held on January 25th to the 27th.
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, Ana Teresita Gonzalez, said the meeting will be a success for regional integration.
The CELAC, established in December 2011 in Venezuela's Caracas, comprises 33 countries of the Western hemisphere with exception of the United States and Canada. Cuba took the bloc's rotating presidency in January 2013 and will handed over to Costa Rica during the upcoming summit.
