New York, February 22 (RHC)-- At the United Nations, Cuba urged respect for the body's charter, which advocates world peace and cooperation on the basis of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
Addressing a meeting of the Special Committee on the UN Charter, Cuban diplomat Tanieris Diéguez highlighted Cuba's commitment to the UN Charter and the importance of strengthening the leading role of the UN General Assembly, in its capacity as the main regulatory body to discuss global issues and adopt policies.
The Cuban official rejected any attempt to reinterpret the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, signed on June 26th, 1945 in San Francisco, California. In that sense, she condemned the promotion of political agendas that advocate interventionism and foreign interference to the detriment of the national integrity and sovereignty of developing countries.
Dieguez also criticized the actions of some countries, aimed at undermining the work of the Special Committee on the UN Charter and urged delegations form all UN member states to submit substantive proposals and participate constructively in the Committee's discussions.”
