Geneva, June 12 (RHC-PL) --  Cuba advocated Monday the need to regulate migration through accessible, regular, orderly and secure channels.

Addressing the 35th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Cuban representative Pablo Berti Oliva stated that 'the migration issue cannot be solved by simply closing  borders to prevent people from entering. Instead, we need to regulate people's movement through the establishment of accessible, regular, safe and affordable migration channels.'

The Cuban diplomat agreed with the criteria expressed by the UN Special Rapporteur on Migration, who pointed to the need to analyze with States the proposal to develop a 2035 agenda to facilitate human mobility within the framework of the United Nations, in parallel to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
