Delegation from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Visits Cuba

Havana, February 5 (RHC)-- A delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies arrived in Havana Monday, headed by the Secretary General of the worldwide humanitarian aid organization, Elhadj As Sy.

During their stay, the visitors will hold meetings with senior officials of the Cuban ministries of health and foreign affairs. 

In statements to reporters, the secretary general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said the aim of the visit is to explore with authorities of the Cuban Society of the Red Cross ways in which both organizations can better partner together. 

Founded in 1919 in the aftermath of World War I, the Geneva-based International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world's largest humanitarian network that reaches 150 million people in 190 National Societies through the work of over 100 million volunteers.

It coordinates international humanitarian assistance to victims of disasters and health emergencies worldwide, regardless of nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.

By improving humanitarian standards, working as partners in development, responding to disasters, supporting healthier and safer communities, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies helps reduce vulnerabilities, strengthen resilience and foster a culture of peace around the world.
