Havana, Feb 21 (RHC)-- Cuba's Institute of Water Resources (INRH) is immersed in the rehabilitation of aqueduct and sewage networks and drinking water supplies in several cities across the country. To this aim, the country has earmarked 51 million 091 thousand Cuban pesos, mainly from international cooperation.
Foreign relations expert with the Institute Anett Turino Hernandez told the press in Havana that the funding for these projects come in the form of credit lines or donations. She stressed that a large part of the funds –the equivalent of 50 million pesos-- are credit lines granted Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the Fund for International Development of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
She added that the loans -granted on favorable payment terms- support programs to improve the water supply and sanitation systems in the cities of Havana, Camaguey, Bayamo and Cardenas.
The Cuban expert further stated that the country received donations, amounting to over one million pesos, coming from Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the UN Development Program. These funds, she said, will be used in the implementation of water projects in the provinces of Granma, Sancti Spiritus, Pinar del Rio, Guantanamo and Holguin.
