Yutong Wheels up on Havana Streets

Havana, February 26 (RHC)-- Chinese buses of the make Yutong will continue to be the main public transportation means in Havana up to 2016, according governmental accords between Havana and Beijing facilitating the purchase by the island of the equipment, logistics and post-sale services.

Cuban engineer Carlos Alberto Gonzalez told reporters that the current stock of Yutong buses in Havana amounts to nearly 500. He recalled that the island purchased 400 of those buses between 2007 and 2008.

Starting in 2012, Cuba has purchased 90 buses annually and this imports will continue to take place till 2016, according to the plans of the provincial transportation office.

Havana has allocated 12 million dollars to purchase this year’s lot, along with another 34 millions dedicated to the maintenance and repair of similar buses currently under exploitation.

According to local authorities public bus service in Havana will transport over 347 million people in 2014, with over 600 buses in services, a number of such equipment that is not yet enough to meet the local demand.
