Havana, September 21 (RHC)-- In Havana, the office of the World Health Organization, the WHO, has voiced rejection of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.
In statements to the Cuban National News Agency, the local WHO representative, Dr. Cristian Morales, lashed out at the U.S. economic stranglehold against Cuba, in place for more than five decades now. Dr. Morales called the policy unjust and noted that its has had a severe impact on the island's development and on the health of its people, who are unable to access vital U.S.-originating medical equipment and supplies.
The WHO representative stated that his organization supports the position of the majority of UN countries which every year vote in favor of ending the U.S. blockade of Cuba. A new round of vote is expected again at the UN on October 31 this year, when an annual report on the effects of the blockade is presented to the General Assembly.
