Brasilia, November 19 (RHC)-- The president of Brazil's Workers Party (PT) Gleisi Hoffman, thanked the Cuban government and doctors for their solidarity with the Brazilian people, and regretted that they will end their participation in 'More Doctors' program in that South American nation.
In statements to radio stations and alternative media in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, the Workers Party leader explained in detail the terms of the agreement signed between the Pan American Health Organization and the ministries of health of both, Brazil and Cuba, which gave birth to the iconic health program in august 2013 under the administration of Dilma Rousseff.
The president of Workers Party termed as disrespectful and unacceptable the stance of Brazilian president-elect Jair Bolsonaro, who made offensive references to the Cuban professionals, who have offered their services to millions of Brazilians in poor, remote communities across the South American nation.
She blasted Bolsonaro's suggestion that the Cuban professionals should re-validate their degree as medical practitioners in order to continue working in Brazil.
The PT leader said Bolsonaro's intention is to favor the interests of the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), whose doctors have repeatedly refused to go to work to the remote regions and indigenous districts, where the Cuban doctors have been providing free health care services to millions of patients, since the Program's inception in 2013.
The president of the Workers Party further said that the proposed revalidation exam is absurd, a pretext fabricated by the Federal Council of Medicine to leave professionals from Cuba or any other nation out of the Brazilian work market.
