San Salvador, December 20 (RHC)-- The Seventh Cuba-El Salvador Policy Meeting is currently underway in the Salvadoran capital, San Salvador.

Participants in the meeting, including Salvadoran Deputy Foreign Minister Jaime Miranda and Cuban Ambassador René Ceballo are reviewing the state of political and cooperation ties between the two nations, toward expanding and strengthening them.

Key initiatives include cultural, sports and health programs such as Operation Miracle, a free eye surgery program, created by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, which has helped restore the vision of thousands of Salvadorans and others worldwide.

Meanwhile, residents of 127 provinces in the Central American nation have learned to read and write with the help of the Cuban-developed “Yes I can” Literacy Method.

Salvadoran President Salvador Sánchez Cerén has praised Cuba’s ongoing efforts to help implement social programs, after diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored in 2009.
