Havana, January 23 (RHC)-- Preparations continue all across Cuba for the February 24th referendum, during which the Cuban people will either ratify or reject the country’s new Constitution.

The Constitution was approved in late December by the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), after a broad public consultation process in which millions of Cubans participated, contributing their suggestions for modifications, additions or eliminations.

The final text of the new Cuban Magna Carta, approved by Parliament, is already available in printed and digital formats and as a mobile application also, thus giving Cuban voters yet another chance to read and study, in a conscious way, the important document before the February 24th referendum.

Cuban sources report that about 1,531,149 copies of the document have already been sold, out of the 3,100,000 copies distributed across all Cuban municipalities by Correos de Cuba.

Raul Palmero, president of the Federation of University Student (FEU), posted on Twitter that nearly 9,000 university students have volunteered to collaborate in guaranteeing the quality and transparency of the referendum process.

Meanwhile, the National Directorate for Identification, Immigration and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior continues the electoral registration of Cuban voters.

More than eight million Cubans are called to ratify on February 24 the new Constitution of the Republic, which ratifies Cuba’s socialist nature and the leading role of the Communist Party in its society.

It also reflects changes in the structure of the State, extends guarantees and human rights, promotes foreign investment, and recognizes several forms of property, including private property.
