Nairobi, April 1 (RHC)-- Kenyan Health Minister Sicily Kariuki has confirmed that there are broad perspectives to increase collaboration between her country and Cuba after meeting in Nairobi with Cuban Vice President Inés María Chapman.

Kariuki - who praised the performance of the island's professionals - said that the agreements will continue and in particular now they can explore new areas of cooperation.

In Kenya, located at 1,600 meters above sea level in East Africa, there are currently 100 Cuban health professionals.

Distributed in the 47 counties of the Kenyan geography, the doctors of the island arrived in June of last year.

Its objective is to help improve the health system and achieve universal coverage in correspondence with the postulates of the World Health Organization (WHO), according to the Nairobi authorities.

After arriving last night in this capital, the vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, spoke with a representation of the Medical Brigade. They discussed health realities very different from thoseof Cuba, the presence of diseases already eradicated in the Caribbean country, and the complexity of the work they do given the characteristics of an ethnically diverse nation.

In turn, they referred to the reception of the population. Everyone wants to be taken care of by Cuban doctors, says the coordinator of the mission, Dr. Damodar Peña.
