Havana, April 26 (RHC)-- Oxfam Canada has issued a statement in Ottawa, condemning the new anti-Cuba measures by the Trump Administration in the U.S.

It notes that the measures announced on April 17th will negatively impact everyday life of Cubans on the island, as it imposes a new cap on family remittances, further blocks Cuba’s financial transactions and punishes Cuban entities and foreign investors doing business with the Caribbean state.

The text reads: “Oxfam laments Washington’s new plan to tighten the economic blockade to which the Cuban people have been subjected over the past nearly six decades. Washington is returning to old, failed methods, which run contrary to international law and the self-determination of states.”

The development agency notes that its experts have corroborated on the ground what Cuba has repeatedly charged, that “the U.S. blockade constitutes the main obstacle to Cuba’s development and hampers the country’s efforts toward fulfilling Agenda 2030 of the United Nations.”

Oxfam has collaborated with Cuba since 1993, working primarily with small communities, Cuba’s LGBT community, academic sectors and civil society organizations.
