Rome, June 22 (RHC)-- The humanism, professional quality and vocation of solidarity of the Cuban health workers who are helping to face the COVID-19 in Italy were the central themes of a virtual round table held this Monday in Rome.

"We understand love, not hate" was the name of the event organized by the representation of the main Italian trade union center (CGIL) in Turin, that of the Communication Workers Union (SLC CGIL), in Turin and Piedmont, and the Turin circle of the National Association of Friendship Italy-Cuba (Anaic).

Elena Ferro, General Secretary of the SLC CGIL Turin and Piedmont, moderated the panel in which the Cuban Ambassador to Italy, José Carlos Rodríguez, the General Secretary of the CGIL in Turin, Enrica Valfré, and the Head of International Relations of that trade union confederation Susana Camusso took part.

Also present were Irma Dioli, president of the Anaic, Rocco Sproviero, secretary of the Turin circle of that organization, and Dr. Julio Guerra, head of the brigade of 38 Cuban health professionals who work in the provisional hospital built in the OGR culture and convention complex, also in Turin.

In their presentations, the Italian guests thanked Cuba for its help in Italy by sending doctors and nurses to the regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, at a time when the epidemic was hitting those and other territories of the country.

They also highlighted the altruism of the health professionals, the efficiency and principles of solidarity and humanism on which the Cuban health system is based, while demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.

Ambassador Rodriguez expressed his appreciation for the realization of the initiative and the support received by his country from the Italian people for years, while highlighting solidarity as a fundamental characteristic of the work of the Cuban Revolution inside and outside its borders.

In this regard, he referred to the censorship imposed by the corporate media on this solidarity, which is based on the principle of sharing what one has with those who need it.
