Havana, June 22 (RHC)-- Two vital sectors in the country's economic life -- industry and energy-mining -- were discussed on the Mesa Redonda Monday evening on Cuban radio and television.
At the beginning of his presentation on the Round Table, the Minister of Energy and Mines (MINEM), Liván Arronte Cruz, explained that his sector did not stop its work during the stage of confrontation with COVID-19 and "all industries kept working and continue to fulfill their main productions."
Among the main results presented minister was the fulfillment of the productions of oil and gas, the stability in the Electrical System executing the main actions of maintenance.
Mining production was also guaranteed, especially salt and calcium carbonate, while nickel + cobalt production is over 99% compliant. "In all cases, we have ensured an increase in efficiency and energy savings, with the adoption of measures and protocols to ensure the health of our workers," he emphasized.
The MINEM, which groups 96,363 workers, kept 13,483 workers working remotely during the stage of confronting the epidemic, while 5,613 workers were declared interrupted and 431 were relocated to other activities, said Arronte Cruz.
On this same subject, he valued that in the post-COVID stage the Ministry will keep the option of teleworking and distance or semi-presential work, based on the experience accumulated in this period. "We are planning to extend and generalize this possibility, through better planning and control of tasks."
At another point in the prime time radio and television program, he recalled that 13 workers in the sector were tested positive with COVID-19, of whom 5 remain hospitalized with a favorable evolution and 830 were isolated in isolation centers or in their homes.
